A TV in every pot in India

India's voters are used to being wooed through their wallets but one party's offer of a "free colour TV set for every household" has excited the interest of even the most sceptical.

'Free TV for every home' - even those with no electricity By Peter Foster

Comments: Wow! People are taking this TV-in-every-pot deal to ridiculous extremes! First, it was the $1.5 billion giveaway to Americans to pay for converter boxes to transition from analog to digital TV. If you missed it, the debate for this occured last fall when Congress was cutting food stamps. The British are considering their own plan to pay for the elderly and handicapped to keep TV. I believe that is still in progress. In Europe in general, there seems to be a movement towards a "right to TV".

This TV giveaway in India is beyond anything in the US or Europe, however. People need food, clothing, shelter, electricity far before they need TV. I'm beginning to think the whole world may need The TV-Free System.
